Dr Alex Moulton, the famous design engineer, gave a talk to members of the Bugatti Trust following the Annual General meeting on 24th January In a career spanning many years Dr Moulton may be best known for the design of the rubber cone suspension for the iconic Mini and for Hydrolastic suspension. Between them, these systems have been fitted to 8 million cars.
He developed The Moulton bicycle in 1962 and pioneered small-wheeled full suspension thinking which was acknowledged as the most radical bicycle design in 60 years. Still in production over 150,000 have been made and they still hold world speed records, testimony to the success of their advance design.
At the meeting he announced the publication of his autobiography: "Bristol to Bradford on Avon - A lifetime in Engineering". Limited number of books available from the Bugatti Trust.
Dr Moulton's achievements include Queen's Award, CBE, 3 Honorary doctorates and have made him an icon for budding engineers |
