Since its foundation in 1987 the Bugatti Trust at Prescott has been in the forefront of intelligent conservation. It has completed a 10 year programme of scanning, digitising and indexing 25,000 original Bugatti Works drawings to preserve originals, help historical understanding and support owners and restorers worldwide. Scanning a 10,000 item photo archive is well advanced, and separate systems give access to the archive built up by the late Hugh Conway and to Bugatti works 'build lists'.

During February it organised a seminar to share its experience. This involved CSG, the software supplier, and representatives of the VSCC, VCC, VMCC, Midlands Automobile Club, R-R Heritage Trust, Frazer Nash Archive and the Bentley Drivers, Bugatti Owners, and R-R Enthusiasts Clubs. The event was successful both as a learning exercise and an opportunity for archivists to get to know one another better. A series of mutual exchange visits is planned.

Poop Poop is strongly in favour. One of the biggest challenges we all face is preserving original material while making the information it contains available to those who need it. This means patient indexing, intelligent use of databases, and scanning which provides clearer than original copies as prints or electronically. We congratulate the Bugatti Trust on what it has done and on its efforts to make its experience generally available.
